Dulles International Airport (IAD), located 26 miles west of the capital, was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 and serves 36 domestic and international carriers through 139 gates. Shops are located in 13,000 square feet of retail space on concourse B. The airport is attractively decorated with art and photography exhibits and periodically stages live entertainment.
